Things To Do in Providenciales
“A vacation is having nothing to do and all day to do it”
- some wise person on vacation
Alright, I'll get staright into it cause lets be real, if you're searching this up then all you need are answers and fast!
Here’s my list of must-do activities while you're on the island of Providenciales:
1. Doing Absolutely Nothing...
Yup, you read that right. And why not? You deserve a few days of doing absolutely nothing but sipping on your drink of choice while lounging on the beach, pretending you put on enough sunscreen. Heck, I live here, and honestly, doing nothing on the beach never gets old.
Put that phone on silent—or, even better, turn it off completely. This is your time to disconnect from everything. Meetings? What are those? Deadlines? Who needs them? And kids? Well, if you forgot about them for a moment, I can't blame you. I hope you had those few seconds of blissful silence.
Why is "Doing nothing" the first thing on this list? Well, I spent three years studying in London, and those three years gave me a glimpse of life outside the islands. Let me tell you, everyone there seems to be living life at a mile a minute. It was exhausting just to witness, and I can’t imagine living like that forever. So yeah, breathe, sip that piña colada nice and slow. You don’t have to be anywhere, there’s no last train to catch, and no one’s expecting you to do anything—except maybe help your partner reapply that sunscreen.
Once you’ve lost track of what day it is and your inevitable sunburn has calmed down, I suggest you flip your relaxation switch to “adventure” (sorry, that was a bit cheesy) and check out the rest of this list.
2. The Sea Awaits You!
So, you’ve decided to leave the beach behind and venture out into the endless stretch of turquoise water.
While many people come to Provo for the beaches, I believe that, besides the people, the ocean is what makes this island truly special. It’s the place where we, the team at Aqua Charters, are lucky enough to call our playground.
Dolphin Swimming
It’s tough to put into words what it’s like to swim with wild dolphins. Jojo, our resident dolphin who’s been here longer than most of us, started a family not too long ago. They hunt, feed, and sleep all right here in Turks and Caicos. They even form bonds with a select few humans. Dreamer, Jojo’s daughter, formed one of those special connections with my good friend Kit, the owner of Aqua Charters.
More Nothing, Different Setting
I know, I know, more “doing nothing,” but I promise it’s a different vibe. Instead of doing nothing at the hotel beach or by the pool with other people around, why not find somewhere more secluded? Escape the crowd at Grace Bay Beach.
There are plenty of boat chartering companies out there, and many operate on a public booking basis, where you share the journey with folks you’ve never met. That can definitely be a fun way to network and make new friends. If that sounds like your kind of adventure, I highly recommend booking a sunset spot on the Atabeyra.
But if you’re like me and lean a bit more on the introverted side, then private charters are the way to go! Sure, there’s a time and place for stepping out of your comfort zone and socializing, but this vacation isn’t it. Use this time to recharge those social batteries and finally finish that book you’ve been reading on and off for years. If that sounds like your kind of trip, then booking with us at Aqua Charters is the way to go (slight bias, obviously—it’s my job). But seriously, I can guarantee that everyone on the Aqua team is dedicated to making your trip as relaxing and joyful as possible. It makes our jobs more enjoyable and meaningful when we know we’ve made your trip special. Want a barbeque lunch on the beach? we got you. Want to go searching for Dreamer and her dolphin family? say less. Anyting to make your trip one of a kind.
Wakesurfing
If you know, you know. Make sure to reserve your trip with us on our Mastercraft x24!
If you don't then well just look at this trip we did with the legendary rider, Austin Keen! and need I say more except for don't worry, all of our crew can help you learn to get riding!
Scuba Diving
Even if you’ve never tried it before, I highly recommend signing up for a trial course. A 20 to 30-minute boat ride will take you out to our great barrier reef, home to an entire city of vibrant corals and marine life. And many of the dive sites are along the wall, so get ready to look to your left and see a massive wall of coral and rocks, and to your right, the deep, dark blue of the endless ocean. (I find it incredibly relaxing.)
Here is a pic of me and my sister diving :)
3. The Land is Calling!
Alright, so you’ve soaked up the sun, dipped your toes in the sea, and maybe even befriended a dolphin or two. Now what?
Giddy Up for Some Island Horseback Riding!
Ready to trade in your beach towel for a saddle? Providenciales offers a unique way to explore its stunning beaches—on horseback! Whether you’re a seasoned rider or someone who thinks “trot” is a fancy word for walking fast, the island has three charming stables ready to take you on a beachside adventure.
Start with Unique Tours at the quaint Blue Hills Beach in central Providenciales, where you can soak in the island’s natural beauty as you ride along the picturesque shoreline. If you’re feeling adventurous, head over to Provo Ponies on the southeast side near Long Bay Beach. They offer both group and private rides, so whether you’re looking to bond with fellow travelers or enjoy a solo gallop through the waves, they’ve got you covered. And for a truly local experience, check out the small stable at Five Cays Beach, right near Bugaloo’s restaurant—perfect for grabbing a bite to eat after your ride.
Horseback riding on Providenciales is a fun and unforgettable way to make the most of your tropical vacation. Plus, it’s an experience the whole family can enjoy—so saddle up and get ready to create some island memories!
Craving a Night Out with Live Tunes?
So, you’ve basked in the sun, maybe indulged in some island adventures, and now you’re thinking, “What’s next?” How about diving into the local music scene? Providenciales has got your evenings covered with a lineup of live music events that'll have you swaying, grooving, and maybe even embarrassing yourself on the dance floor (no judgment here).
Most of the live music action on the island happens at restaurants and bars, where you can enjoy everything from full bands to solo artists bringing the vibes on specific nights of the week. The genres are as diverse as the island itself, with the beats of Ripsaw and Rake n’ Scrape—basically the soundtrack of Turks and Caicos—mingling with Reggae and Rock.
Here’s where to catch the action:
Castaways: Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday – because why limit the fun to just the weekend?
Da Conch Shack: Wednesdays – a midweek treat to get you through to the weekend.
The Deck at Seven Stars: Saturday – perfect for those sunset vibes.
Danny Buoy's: Live music on Wednesday | Karaoke on Tuesdays and Thursdays – so you can either listen or be the star of the show (or both!).
Fore! Time to Hit the Greens (or Maybe Just Watch the Birds)
If you’re looking to trade your flip-flops for some golf shoes, Providenciales has just the place. The Royal Turks and Caicos Golf Club is the crown jewel for golf lovers on the island. Designed by Karl Litten and opened back in 1992, this award-winning 18-hole course is a par 72, and it's not just for the pros—whether you’re a seasoned golfer or someone who thinks "par" is short for "party," you’re welcome here.
Set against low limestone cliffs and dotted with peaceful ponds, this course isn’t just about golf—it's a birdwatcher’s paradise too. So, even if your golf game is more “hit-and-miss,” you can always enjoy the scenery (and maybe pretend you were just birdwatching all along).
Located in the Grace Bay region, the Golf Club also offers private golf lessons and tennis, for when you need a break from, well, all that golfing.
